"SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- California lawmakers are sending Gov. Jerry Brown a bill making it clear that professional cheerleaders are sports team employees.
The bill, approved by the state Senate on Monday, would require that cheerleaders be paid at least minimum wage if they work for professional sports teams based in California. AB202 says they would have to be paid for overtime and sick leave, the same as other employees."
OK, I get it. Cheerleaders are people too. But the larger issue is that the State of California lawmakers are playing around with minimum wage pay for cheerleaders instead of creating jobs, alleviating the severe state-wide drought, reducing the worst traffic congestion in the nation, and reducing excessive state taxes and regulations!
Why is the U.S. Supreme Court playing politics with the lives of American citizens? Why did the Supreme Court rule that the obviously illegal Obamacare and the obviously illegal gay marriage are legal?
Let's look at the facts. Obamacare forces American citizens to BUY something - health insurance. The federal government does not have the power - or the right - to force citizens to buy anything. Yet the Supreme Court decided to rule it a "tax", in order to make Obamacare legal, because the government has the right and the power to levy taxes. How is forcing someone to buy health insurance a "tax"? How is punishing them with a monetary fine if they don't buy it, a "tax"?
As for marriage, for thousands of years marriage has been legally defined as the union of a man and a woman. Now, marriage has suddenly been legally redefined by the highest court in the land as seemingly "anything goes". And, no I am not against gays. I don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home. I do care what consenting adults do in the privacy of MY home.
Both of these Supreme Court decisions, Obamacare and Same Sex Marriage, are purely political, reflecting the liberal beliefs and desires of very liberal Americans, not the beliefs and desires of the majority of the American public, not the beliefs and desires of we, the people.
Five out of the nine Supreme Court Justices are politically liberal and seemingly, regardless of the law, or the will of the people, have based these two landmark rulings on their political liberalism. Supreme Court rulings should be about the LAW, not politics. The Supreme Court's job is not to reinterpret laws in order to remake America into a ultra-liberal society. Yet that is exactly what they are doing. For that reason, the U.S. Supreme Court today is a complete, and dangerous, disappointment, redefining America along liberal political lines and putting liberal politics above the law. Shame on them! And, no we can't fire them, they are government workers, and appointed for life.
Liberals, including the U.S. Supreme Court, apparently have made the U.S. Constitution and the Law only a guideline, to be followed when it suits them and not followed when it doesn't suit them. That's not America, that's not what our founders had in mind when they created our "sacred" founding documents.
And, no, I am not an old, white Republican. I am an old, white Independent.
From ABC News
"President Obama used the n-word in a discussion of racism in America today, saying that “we’re not cured” of the “legacy of slavery” and Jim Crow despite having made strides in recent decades.
"It’s not just a matter of it not being polite to say n***** in public,” the president said during an interview with comedian Marc Maron for his “WTF” podcast. “That's not the measure of whether racism still exists or not. It's not just a matter of overt discrimination. Societies don't, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior."
Excuuuse me? "Societies don't, overnight, completely erase everything that happened 200 to 300 years prior"? Overnight? Hey, Obama, what about the last 50 years of us baby boomers trying very hard to erase racism and/or be very race sensitive? You just erased those 50 years. You just erased my 50 years of treating people based on their character and their actions not on their race, religion or gender. I am deeply insulted!
Hawaii Gov. David Ige (D) signed a bill Friday raising the state's legal smoking age to 21, The Associated Press reports. The law applies to buying, smoking, and possessing traditional and electronic cigarettes. Hawaii is the first state to enact a law of this kind,
Really? No vaping in Hawaii until you're 21?
The governor of Hawaii happens to be a Democrat, as is the state legislature.
So, in Hawaii at age 18 you can vote, go to prison as an adult, enter into binding legal contracts, drive at night, and lose your life as a soldier in service to your country but you can't VAPE? Does that make any sense at all? Hey, you Hawaiian liberal Democrats, where's your beloved doctrine of "fair and equal"?
