micro aggressions?

is my white cup considered offensive?

from ucop.edu (University of California, Office of the President)

"Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership (from Diversity in the Classroom, UCLA Diversity & Faculty Development, 2014). The first step in addressing microaggressions is to recognize when a microaggression has occurred and what message it may be sending. The context of the relationship and situation is critical. Below are common themes to which microaggressions attach."

"Where are you from or where were you born?”

“You speak English very well.”

“What are you? You’re so interesting looking!”

A person asking an Asian American or Latino American to teach them words in their native language.

Continuing to mispronounce the names of students after students have corrected the person time and time again.

Not willing to listen closely and learn the pronunciation of a non-English based name.

“When I look at you, I don’t see color.”

“There is only one race, the human race.”

“America is a melting pot.”

“I don’t believe in race.”

Denying the experiences of students by questioning the credibility /validity of their stories.

"I believe the most qualified person should get the job.”

“America is the land of opportunity.”

Who raised these kids? What kind of real-world values are parents teaching their kids??? Where did young adults and college students get the idea that they should be entitled to be free from stress, free from winning and losing, and have free college tuition, free rent, free food and maybe free pot?

Here we are. Here we are in millennial America. Millennial America on campus. God help us. Oh, wait, "God help us" would be a microaggression - it might offend atheists, scientists, pagans, witches, zombies, devil worshippers, et al. Oops, sorry, I have to regret saying it and wash my mouth out with soap.

And to add insult to injury, my own college, the college I graduated from years ago, keeps asking me to donate money to them. To support all this extreme liberal educational bullshit. Now, THAT's offensive - to ME!

Dear American baby boomers:

We no longer live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. After 239 years (1776-2015) the America of our founders and forefathers is dead. The world's shining beacon of hope and freedom and opportunity is gone. Welcome to the new America. It makes me want to cry. Or puke.
